Man Reported to Be Executed by Firing Denies His Death!
In the past 30 days, several media outlets operating outside Afghanistan, such as Amu TV, Afghanistan International, and Hasht-e Subh Daily, reported that two men were “executed by firing squad.” However, both men later appeared in video, denying reports of their deaths.
These media outlets reported the first incident on the September 30th based on an video showing a confrontation between a man and a Taliban soldier in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. On this day, a reporter from Afghanistan International, while speaking with a news anchor, even provided details about the man’s financial situation. After the reports were aired, the Taliban released a video of the man, confirming that he had not been executed and was still alive.
Less than 30 days after this incident on October 25th, these media outlets reported again that a young man named Ahmad Fahim, a resident of Panjshir, was executed by the Taliban. Amu TV reported that “informed sources” told them the Taliban had executed the young man, who was allegedly a shepherd. Following this news, the young man whose photo was published appeared in an video report, denying reports of his death.
His name is Mohammad Faqir, and he works as a guard in Kabul.
In a video aired by Panjshir National TV, the young man’s father expressed that the false news of his son’s death caused distress to their family and friends.
Irresponsible Conduct
Correcting inaccurate and fake news is an established principle in media. Outlets that fall into the trap of rumors and turn them into news should correct their inaccurate and fake reports upon discovering the truth. However, these media outlets have quietly removed their incorrect news from their websites without issuing corrections, which is unprofessional and unethical.
In the latest incident, Amu TV removed the report from its Persian page, yet it remains visible on their English page, with a note at the end mentioning that: “Taliban officials have not commented on the incident, and no official motive has been provided.”
